Planning a Commercial Cell Signal Upgrade? Here’s What to Have Ready

Everyone in the office knows which room drops calls. Someone has found a spot by the window where their phone works, and stepping outside to finish a conversation has become routine.

If that sounds familiar, those everyday frustrations are useful information. Before choosing a commercial cell phone signal booster, it helps to understand where reception is falling short and what your building needs.

You don’t need to diagnose the problem yourself. A little preparation can help make the first conversation with an installer more productive.

Start with the rooms people actually use

Saying a building has poor reception is a starting point. Knowing where it happens gives the evaluation a clearer focus.

Ask employees or tenants which areas cause trouble. Is it one conference room? The back half of a warehouse? Several offices on the same floor? Note whether people are dealing with dropped calls, delayed texts, or difficulty using cellular data.

Also identify the spaces where better reception matters most to your operation. A rarely used storage room and a busy customer service office may have very different priorities.

These observations don’t replace professional testing, but they give the team specific problems to investigate.

Know which carriers need coverage

Include the cellular carriers your business relies on when discussing the project. If employees use company-issued phones, that information may be easy to gather. In a building with several tenants, you may need to ask around.

Don’t assume one person’s phone represents everyone’s experience. If some employees have trouble and others don’t, mention that.

CellTeks uses signal-testing equipment to examine the cellular environment, including the carriers a customer wants to support. That helps move the conversation beyond how many bars someone sees on a phone. Learn more about our signal-testing approach.

Bring a floor plan—and the practical details

If you have a floor plan, have it available. Mark the areas where reception is poor and the spaces you want evaluated. Approximate square footage and the number of floors are useful starting points, too.

Think about access before the visit. Who can coordinate entry to locked rooms? Does building management need to approve access to certain areas? Are there operating hours or tenant activities the team should know about?

Mention planned renovations or changes in how the space will be used. An office being converted into a meeting room deserves a place in the conversation before the installation is planned.

Discuss appearance early

Equipment placement matters to the people who work in a building, and so does how the finished installation looks.

Our team recently custom-painted a batch of dome antennas black for a commercial customer. It’s a practical example of a detail worth discussing during planning, especially when equipment will remain visible.

If your building has particular finish requirements, bring them up early so they can be considered alongside the system design.

The CellTeks team recently wrapped up a successful commercial signal boosting installation in Tennessee. We’re proud of the crew’s work and grateful to our customer for trusting us with the project.

For businesses considering their own installation, the next step starts with their building. CellTeks’ on-site evaluation and installation process includes gathering the information needed to design a system around the customer’s needs.
