Stay Connected at Home
Your phone gets you connected to everything now. Calls and texts were just the beginning. Now we stream, video chat, order our groceries, control your smart home and so much more! Your phone uses cellular and Wi-Fi signal to make this all happen from inside as well as outside your home. We’ll explain some of the differences, uses, and ways a cell phone booster and Wi-Fi signal booster can help.
How to Boost Cellular Signal:
Weak indoor cell signal is a major issue affecting thousands of homeowners. There are several factors contributing to weak indoor cell signal. The distance and line of sight from a building to the cell tower, obstructions like mountains, and other buildings, as well as modern building materials like stucco and low-E glass prevent you from getting good cell signal. A good rule of thumb to remember is, The greener the home…the weaker the indoor cell signal will be.
How Does a Cellphone Signal Booster Work?
Do I need One?
So now that you know how a cell phone booster works, how do you know if you have low signal? Your bars are of course a good indicator, but do you hang out near a window or have to go outside to talk on your smartphone? Get voicemails but no calls? The person on the other end cant hear you? If so, these are good indications you have an indoor cell signal problem.
So we covered cell signal but how is this different from Wi-Fi? We’ll discuss that and some other way it can be useful.
How to Boost Wi-Fi Signal
With cellular signal, Wi-Fi is a wireless technology. Many had though Wi-Fi was an acronym for “Wireless-Fidelity" but alas, it was marketing when it was coined in the late 90’s. As the internet got more popular, so did speeds and each generation improved that as well as other aspects. Cell phones originally did not have Wi-Fi compatibility but as more people used both so it only made sense to have both technologies built in our mobile devices. With that being said, Wi-Fi doesn’t inherently mean internet nor cell signal, but is a way to access the internet wirelessly.
How it Works
When you call to have internet installed in your home the ISP (internet service provider) will run cable from either a pole or another location their lines are sourced, then install a modem in your house for you to have internet. That modem is a translator from the ISPs traffic to your home and makes it easy for you to plug in and get internet. In many cases your modem is also a wireless router that broadcasts Wi-Fi when your ISP installs your system. Since the ISP usually only install one router, it may not reach to all areas in your home. And thats where we come in! We can come in and boost the range adding more Wireless Access Points (WAPs) to cover everywhere you need it. Starlink
A bit of a bonus is one of the newer ways to connect to the internet…Starlink. So with your typical Wi-Fi network, your source of internet is from the service providers poles or access boxes, but what if there aren’t any poles or boxes to tie into? Starlink remedies that by utilizing satellites deployed in low earth orbit to get internet almost anywhere in the world! We’ve installed Starlink in very rural areas for homes, ranches, and cabins where it’s very hard or expensive to have a hard line installed. Should you need boosted strength, we can expand on the system just like normal wired internet. If you have access to wired internet in your area, we would recommend using that but if there isn’t one, Starlink may do the trick.
